College Attendance and Completion Worldwide

Enrollment and certificates earned per top country
Although globalization seems to be the spreading of American educational ideals worldwide, the US itself is lacking when compared to other countries. In the graph above, we can see that the US has only 34% of its young adult population enrolled in college, with 6 other countries preceding it. Also, when comparing the percentage of students enrolled in college who actually earn certificates or degrees at the end of their learning experience, the US shows only 18%, with 14 countries preceding it.

  1. Based on the information that I have read in numerous articles, in the United States all students are educated regardless all of their poverty level or economic status. Also of note is that, in the United States all students from K-12 receive an education regardless of the cost to the state. In other foreign countries, students are tested early in their educational process and only those who can pass the administered tests are allowed to go forward to higher education and on to college. This education is mostly paid for by the government. Student may move on to receive a higher education as long as their parents can financially afford it.

  2. I agree, I think that the cost of tuition plays a major role in enrollment in the U.S. It is unfair to be compared to countries that have their higher education paid for them by the government. If the U.S. did the same, enrollment would definitely be higher. Through globalization we see the shift in the placement of jobs, which really all stems from their education.
